Hi! I am Chloe Garrett and excited to learn all about the wine community. I really wanted to take this course to immerse myself in what wine is truly about. Sounds silly, but seriously! My mom and dad are both huge wine drinkers and I am embarrassing them by drinking my $5 wine from 7/11. Cannot believe I am admitting that, but even more reason for me to be a part of this course.
To be honest, however, I could not tell you a thing about wine. I know certain fancy terms like swirling the glass, an aerator, or something like that. Things I have heard my parents say, but have no clue what they mean, and therefore am very excited to actually learn. Maybe even impress them with my knowledge after this class. I am going to Europe this summer and want to really know my stuff when it comes to wine, so I can actually enjoy the wines around the world, especially the ones in Europe.
I really want to learn if I like red wines or white wines because my mom likes white wine, but I don't know if I am sold. Maybe I just have not found the type of wine that suits me, which is exactly what I want to get out of this class. I really want to be able to accurately describe wine. I always hear the terms I mentioned above but do not know what I am talking about, as evident by my writing in this first blog post. I want to learn what people mean when they say the acidity of the wine, or it has balance, or what they mean by angular. That last one really gets me, what is angular??! Honestly, I really want to become a wine snob haha so I am hoping I get that out of this class. Also, I want to use my knowledge in Europe and not be so scared of it there and rather enjoy it! We are planning on either going to Spain, France, or Italy, which is why I have not mentioned a specific location, so maybe this class will be a part of the decision as to where I travel to!
I really enjoy sweeter wines, I think, but honestly, I have not truly tried a variety of wines. Mainly just Pino Grigio and Chardonnay--my mom's faves. I have always said I think I would really enjoy red wine (idk why I say that I have no evidence to back this up) but I really want to use this class to taste some red wines and see if I truly am a red wine girly.
I am very excited to go on this wine journey and hope my lack of wine knowledge improves greatly!
Here is me! I really wish I had a selfie with a glass of wine, but I do not. I will soon, so stay tuned!
