Name: Prophecy Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Variety: Sauvignon Blanc
Country: USA
Region: all it says is CA, but when you go to the website it says from New Zealand's region of Marlborough (for the 2020 vintage it says Central Valley, CA so I presume the same for 2022, but I assume they take the plants from Marlborough and plant them in Central Valley or possibly all over CA)
Vintage: 2022
Price: $10.99
Shop Review: "Prophecy Sauvignon Blanc is a classic expression of California Sauvignon Blanc. In the glass, the wine opens with citrus aromas of lemon, lime and grapefruit. Refreshing notes of passionfruit, evergreen and fresh jalapenos lead to a bright mouthfeel with a long, clean finish." (wine.com)
Wine Folly: pg.165-166. They state notes of gooseberry, which I could not tell you if I know what that tastes like or not, so I assume I did not taste that. I got the hints of grapefruit. It says strong herbaceous notes which is definitely the majority of what I tasted. I did not get any honeydew, passionfruit, or peach.
My Review: To start, this was way too acidic for me, I did not like it, which is interesting because in the past I have liked a Sauvignon Blanc. All I tasted was a punch of citrus mainly lemon, but also some grapefruit with some leaves. It was very crisp and acidic with nothing to balance the acidity and instantly gave me a headache each time I drank it. I really wanted to like this wine, but just could not. If there were some notes of passionfruit or peach I think this would have been perfect, but the acidity just overtook the whole wine and it was so crisp I felt it all throughout my mouth leaving it very dry and a sting on my tongue that was not pleasant. It was also very bitter. However, I did enjoy the lightness of this wine. I think if the citrus component could have been more balanced out it would have been a repurchase. I did not have this with food.
